George,
first, Iīd talk to the dealer about how his shop manager is treating his customerīs bikes.
If he doesnīt do anything about it, change to another dealer around.
Of course revving a cold engine by itself wouldnīt cause an oil leak. I suppose the
oil is to be found in the hole on the rear starboard side of the cylinder head. Sometimes it
does look as if the cylinder head gasket is leaking, but donīt worry, it doesnīt. In the cylinder
head there is some sort of a plastic bushing to be found, glued into the cylinder head. Both materials,
the plastic of the bushing and the alloy of the cylinder head do expand at different ratios, thus if
the engine isnīt warmed up properly, the bushing will loosen and start to leak. It has to be replaced
or at least to be "reglued". This doesnīt occur to all Savages, but mine did it twice, both times after
giving high revs without proper warming. Of course, proper warming up will also prevent premature cam wear.
If the problem occurs several times at your bike, you should try to get a whole new cylinder head as long
as the bike is still under warranty. My Suzuki dealer said he was going to change the cylinder head at my
bike if it should happen again.
Actually I was wondering if our automotive engineer Max Morley would have any thoughts about this problem.
Do you read this, Max?
Ride safely
